November 2001 Fundraising Newsletter

A few months ago, a new fundraising committee was formed to help raise the thousands of pounds needed to get the new project started. It also aims to involve the local community, business and press to maintain a high profile for the club.

The following people volunteered to become members:

Ann Bowles : 881793

Kathy Brown : 880772

Sue Cook : 464168

Janette Miller : 880759

Kiri Weller : 880861

Jackie Williams : 880357

If you would like to offer help, have a good idea for an event or have contacts that may be useful, please speak to anyone on the committee.

The annual Dinner and Dance broke with tradition this year, and was held in September at the end of the season, rather than February. Ours was the first booking for the new Village Hall and everyone had a great time. The Raffle, which was drawn that evening, and the Dinner Dance combined raised over £1800.

We have held two home made Cake Stalls in the Square outside Llandaff House, thanks to the hospitality of Richard and Deborah Lake.

On both occasions we raised around £250, so these sales are well worth holding. Any offers of cakes for the next one on January 19th will be gladly received.

By the time you receive this newsletter, our latest venture should have hit the streets! Is there anyone out there that hasn’t heard of The Eynsham Cricket Club Official Team Calendar 2002? This saucy little number has been eagerly awaited by players and public alike, and hopefully, judging by the number of pre-publication orders, should be a sell-out. Hot stuff!

For those too young to appreciate the finer points of cricket, Father Christmas will be in his Grotto at St Leonards Church Hall, on Sunday 9th December between 2pm and 4pm. A photographer will be on hand, there will be face painting and delicious home made cakes to buy. Entrance will be £2.50 to include a gift.

You could be the lucky winner of a Luxury Christmas Hamper - £1 a square in our prize draw. The hamper can be viewed at The Queens Head where you can also buy your squares.

Eyes down for a full house – Bingo is hitting  Eynsham! Due to popular request, we will be holding a Bingo Night on Monday 14th January – time and venue to be decided. If this proves popular, this may well become a regular event.

If dancing the night away is more your idea of fun, book now for our Masked Valentines Ball on Saturday 16th February at the village hall. There will be food, fizz and live music – from 8pm to midnight. More details to follow.

Deborah Lake and John Wilson are planning a Sponsored Bike Ride around local cricket clubs in April. Everyone is welcome to join in, and we hope to involve other cricket clubs eager to raise funds for their own projects.

We are hoping to enter a float for the Eynsham Carnival, and also to have a stall at the Carnival Field. Children and adults will be able to take part in both – all ideas for a theme for the float to the committee please!

The President’s Game that takes place in August will also be developed to raise funds for the club. The Beer Festival that takes place at the same time attracts a huge number of people, and we need to take advantage of that.

Other events that are currently being planned are a Quiz Night in March, a Start of Season Curry and Race Night in April, and a Fashion Show in October. Watch this space for further details closer to the time.

We will be submitting a letter to the owners of the Swinford Toll Bridge, asking if we can man the bridge on one of their Charity Days. These can raise a huge amount of money but

there is fierce competition from other organisations – keep your fingers crossed!

So far we have had some great publicity. We have made the front cover of the Oxford Mail, had stories in the Oxford Times and Witney Gazette, and there has been coverage on Fox FM and Radio Oxford. There will be another interview on Radio Oxford on Tuesday 20th November at 4.00pm with Jackie Williams and Pete Jones.

We have also just heard that the original artwork of the cartoon that appeared with the Oxford Mail story, depicting our photographer Sally, and a naked cricketer, has been kindly donated by the cartoonist, Ivor. We will be auctioning it at a future date.

Thank you to everyone who has already helped us in some way – we need help from all members if these events are to be a success. Please get involved – the new ground and pavilion will ensure the club’s future for children and adults alike.
