Another loss against a strong Marcham side, but this game was all about Junior Jones. More later.

We actually bowled quite well. Marcham were on 130 with 10 overs left, but then Mr Launchbury came in and just tore us apart. Nobby and Duds both had HUGE sixes hit off them. An interesting point was Heeed pulling up lame (twisted ankle apparently) as the enormous Launchbury took guard. Probably quite sensible really.

Chasing 223 never really looked feasible, but Junior gave it his best shot. It was a fairly chanceless innings including 15 boundaries. In fact if Sam could have kept his fluency as he got past 80 odd, we might have possibly won this. But that seems churlish. It was fitting that the two Sams were there together as Junior passed the three figures mark to huge cheers from the score box. This particular grizzled old veteran got quite moist eyed watching it.

To put the Innings into context. 103 runs in the 2nd division of the OCA (the highest standard Eynsham have ever played) against a very good bowling attack would be exceptional to anybody. But to do it when you are barely 16 years old is quite superb. The best innings I've seen in my 9 years at the club.

But we are now at crisis point. One win in the league all season with a "60 pointer" to come against The Gibbon next week.

That usually uncontraversial, some would say placid organ "The Eynsham Echo" has been calling for the head of Willans in it's July Sports supplement. We all stand four square behind him, but the pressure is on us to perform next week.

All together now...."S**t on The Gibbon"etc etc
