Banbury Kwik Cricket Tournament - Monday 25th May 2009

Eynsham u9s competed in an u11s Kwik Cricket tournament held at Banbury including teams from Bicester,Westbury,Charlbury, Wotton and Boars Hill and Banbury. Playing for Eynsham were Ciaran and Oliver Walsh, James Cook, Elliot Rodney, Jake Holton and William Early.

Spilt into 2 groups, Eynsham played Banbury and Charlbury twice and after a close first game against Banbury, which Eynsham won by 8 runs, thereafter Eynsham won their remaining 3 games with ease. As a result this put them in the final against a strong team from Bicester CC. Great performances from the 2 u8's,
Oliver Walsh and Jake Holton who despite their ages didn't let
the older boys down at all and made significant contributions.

Eynsham lost the toss in the final and we put into bat. After a
slow start Ciaran Walsh and Elliot Rodney put on a late surge and Eynsham ended up on 44.

Bicester batters made steady progress against some good bowling, especially James Cook and William Early. The final over saw Bicester needing 1 run with Elliot to bowl. Two dots balls put the pressure on, then clean bowled meaning Bicester now required 6 runs. Next ball was short and the Bicester batsman hit it high and hard, but straight to William at deep square leg who took a fantastic catch. 11 runs to win! Next ball was high and wide .. 6 wides ... 5 runs to win .. next ball another wide to complete the match with Bicester 2 runs short. Eynsham win!!

A fantastic day out for all the boys who played brilliantly given
they were u9's competing in an u11s tourament!

Match Report – Shrivenham June 12

Delayed until the Friday due to wet weather the pitch remained uncut and played a big part in the runs scored. Eynsham lost the toss and were put into bat, scoring 80 all out. C.Bowles (19 runs) and Z.Ehansen (21 runs) started well but found batting difficult on the damp pitch. Eynsham then continued to loose wkts and a steady rate with only Brad Scoone adding a much needed 12 runs towards the end of the innings.
A younger Shrivenham side bowled and fielded well with only 7 wides given away and the in the field taking 6 good catches. J.Golic taking 3 wkts for 10 runs. Shrivenham always struggled to keep up with the run rate with their all rounder S.Windskill leading the batting with a solid 21 runs. When he was bowled their was little further to trouble Eynsham with 7 wkts falling to straight bowling and 2 catches.
The best of Eynsham bowling was C. Bowles (4wkts for 6 runs), G. Ward (2 wkts for 12 runs)
Eynsham won by 37 runs.

Match report – Minster Lovell June 15
Minster Lovell won the toss and elected to bat first with their younger U13/14 team. Eynsham struck quickly into the innings with R.Menon taking 2 early wkts. Minster's batsmen then continued to score runs and up the run rate with only one more wkt to fall in their innings. H.Lambe was caught and bowled by J. Burgess for 19.
A.Spittles (24 runs) and S.Summers (25 runs) batted well to take the Minster score up to a respectable 105 for the innings.
Eynsham started their innings well with Z.Ehansen scoring 34 before being caught trying to reach the river boundary with a straight hit. The Eynsham batting then faltered with Minsters J.Allen Borough taking 3 wkts until J.Leech (17 not out) and Jack Ross (12 not out) came together and played the team into a winning position with Eynsham requiring 10 to win off the last over. This was achieved with a big hit from J.Ross putting the ball into the river for 6 on the penultimate ball. A single off the last ball was run to win a very even and well fought match.
With this result Eynsham completed all 6 games in the group top without loss, finishing on 18 points
.

Match Report – Eynsham Vs Witney Swifts (1st June)
Eynsham scored 158 for 1 (winning by 73 runs)
Witney Swifts scored 85 for 7

On a warm evening and a firm wicket Eynsham batted first. The two openers Chris Bowles and Zubair Ehansen never looked in trouble and confidently batted through to retire on identical scores of 53 not out. The score was taken on to this age groups highest ever 20 over score total of 158 with Joe Burgess scoring 20 not out and Scott Lincoln 11 who was bowled on the last remaining ball of the innings.
With such a large total Eynsham were able to set an attacking field. Bowling was much better with only 11 extras given away. Greg Ward took the first and an important wkt breaking up the opening pair. Wickets taken were:
Greg Ward x 1, J. Leach x 1, J. Burgess x 1, Zubair x 1 and finally C. Bowles returning figures of 3 wkts for only 4 runs.
Because of the attacking field Eynsham were liable to give boundaries away but the fielding generally was better than the previous 2 games with all catches being taken:
D.Richardson x 1, J. Ross x 1, G. Ward x 1 and R.Coe x 1.
Dan Hayman again did well behind the stumps and with more spin bowling used quickly learnt to stand up to the wicket. Finally Ross Ganderton fielding in the covers stopped several certain boundaries.
