14th April 2014 - Build Update
Having received approval from all our main funders the priority now is to make formal contractual arrangements with our primary contractor and to schedule work to start. Because of health and safety and insurance issues the completion of stage 1 and 2 of the process (ie build of base, superstructure and roof) will be the sole responsibility of the primary contractor. The club hope to announce a formal appointment shortly once charges and schedules are agreed.

However, due to current commitments it is unlikely that the contractor will be able to commence substantive work before the end of June. The site will be formally staked out shortly and protective fencing installed prior to any use of the field.

Stage 3 (internal and finishing off) will be co-ordinated by the building committee and will require help/effort from club members.

14th April 2014 - Ground Update
Phil Brown has warned that due to the extensive winter flooding that the pitch may be unplayable. This was subsequently confirmed after the meeting following a visit by our grounds advisor. We have been advised not to play on the field until early June.

These are the affected fixtures:

  1st XI
  25/05/14     Fringford (OCA)
No further OCA home fixtures until 07/06/14

  2nd XI
  03/05/14     Minster Lovell III
  10/05/14     Chesterton II
31/05/14     Keith Crump Cup vs Hanney II
No further OCA home fixtures until 28/06/14

Phil and Allen to liaise. Allen will investigate rearrangement of May fixtures.

More info coming soon...

14th April 2014 - Nets
Winter nets will continue at 8.30pm at Bartholomew Sports Hall, Eynsham until the last session on 24th April. Cost will be £2 per player.

Summer nets will then start at the ground officially on Thursday from 7pm until dusk. Members are also encouraged to use the nets at any other time as deemed appropriate. Use of the bowling machine is available on demand.

--------Dates for Your Diary---------

30th April - Outdoor nets commence at 6pm

--------Committee Updates----------
Minutes of meeting held on 27th March 2014 available on Extras page - Key points are summarised as follows :-

Sunday matches
Looking to rearrange to play Sunday matches away. Wooton on 11 May has been switched to Away. Allen will follow up with OUCC and West Midlands Police.

Social and Fundraising
Sue Cook will organise some sort of pre-season get-together. A Race Night in late April at the Social Club was the favoured option.

During the season some events need to be fixed. Perhaps BBQs at the ground or back at the Queen’s Head might be organised.

Sponsorship
Patrick Arnold has been in touch with the Bayleaf and they have offered £500 for the season. This will be used for shirt sponsorship. Patrick will discuss other club benefits with Mr Hoq. These might include a discount for club members or a Bayleaf organised tea at one game during the season. The Club needs to give some thought as to how the generous sponsorship will be recognised by the club.

Sue will follow up with Ready Steady Spice for possible Youth sponsorship

Could Siemens be invited to help sponsor the team (or kit) in 2014, or be involved with club more long-term? For example ECC could approach Siemens and to ask if they want to sponsor a midweek 20/20 friendly league with local businesses. We could call it the "Siemens 20/20" or something. Each team could pay a nominal sum to enter and we provide facilities, bar and if they want, catering. We'd run the league and fixtures etc. This is something to consider once the pavilion is built.

Frank Partlett offered to set up a golf ball donation box at the DIY

Juniors
School affiliations – Patrick Arnold is in the process of arranging after school sessions to be run at Eynsham Primary. Gary Cook and Jimmy Rossiter have offered to help.

Pavilion Update
Update to follow soon.

Facilities
Preparation work at School Piece has already started. Thanks very much to Frank Partlett for cleaning the nets. Some external matting will be required for the bowlers’ run ups and Phil/Gary are investigating.

Phil and Allen to liaise. Allen will investigate rearrangement of May fixtures.

Related to this there will be cost to make the necessary repairs. The Committee approved expenditure up to £2000. Phil Brown has submitted an application to the Sport England flood relief fund for a grant up to £2,000 to help cover this.

OCA Matters and Correspondence
OCA Captains’ meeting - Thursday 24th April 2014, 7.30 at Stratfield Brake, Kidlington. Skippers or Vice-Captains MUST attend this.

Date of Next Meeting
  Tuesday 29 April, 8.00pm, The Queen’s Head

Any Other Business
1st XI skipper for 2014
Regrettably Andy Howard has announced his intention to retire from playing cricket, on medical advice. The Committee thanked Andy for his contribution to the club as skipper, not only over the past three seasons, but during prior years as well. It was pointed out that Andy had been captain during two of the club’s most successful seasons when promotion had been achieved. Andy will continue to stay involved with club affairs.

Following consultation amongst the 1st XI squad it was agreed to appoint Ben Smitten as 1st XI skipper for 2014. Ben has agreed and looks forward to leading the team during the coming season.

Shirt choice for 2014
Patrick Arnold has submitted four shirts for consideration for the 2014 season. The Canterbury shirt was most favoured by those present
